This was one of the worst Chinese food places I have been to. The place was practically empty and looked dirty. The food was bland and over priced.

I've seen some low star ratings (1 & 2) just recently. I'm not sure if maybe Lucky Chen is bad with some of their dishes & good with others? Of course, that would probably count for a low star to me as far as consistency. But we ordered the same dishes we ordered last time with the exception of the Kung Pao Chicken and Steamed Buns. I am giving 3 for tonight, but I'm on the fence about it, but please, read on...The problems I really had tonight were the Steamed Pork Buns and the Egg Rolls. The Steamed Buns definitely left me with that "pasty" mouth feeling... Eh... You'll read below. And Read at the end about the Egg Rolls, albeit "FREE", I think you still have to put some quality in it, right? So, tonight we chose to have Lucky Chen for dinner. My friend wanted the usual, but I wanted to try something NEW...Tonight we ordered:Steamed Pork Buns (New)Crab Puffs (Ordered this before)Honey Walnut Chicken (Ordered this before)Kung Pao Chicken (New)Egg Rolls (FREE)Steamed Pork Buns - These were really good. The same pork filling as their Baked Pork Buns from their Dim Sum menu. These reminded me of the Filipino version, but are definitely not the same. The filling was good & the buns were nice & soft. One of the buns definitely had more dough than filling, but the other 3 had a great ratio of bun to filling. I think these are probably best ordered AT the restaurant. Of course the buns were delivered in their usual To-Go containers. Being steamed buns of course the moisture from the heat builds up in the box & then the condensation makes the already soft buns a bit... soggy?... moist? With that being said it leaves a "pasty" feeling in your mouth.Crab Puffs - Very good as usual, crunchy outside, tasty filling with the actual taste of crab.Honey Walnut Chicken - Again, very good! Just as we remembered it from last time, so they're definitely consistent at least with this dish.I noticed a few low star reviews for the lemon chicken or the orange chicken. I know, just like the honey walnut chicken, the chicken is cooked in a similar way, fried pieces of chicken, coated in sauce. I'm not sure if they do things differently for delivery orders, but our honey walnut chicken (just like before) was nice & crispy when we first got it, but of course by the 2nd helping the coating was a bit softer.Kung Pao Chicken - I think they have a good Kung Pao Chicken, definitely the one with the most heat so far. I like heat! I like spicy. I always like trying different Kung Paos from different restaurants to test the heat. What I've always found at many restaurants was that the dish just wasn't spicy enough. They keep their chilis whole so I have to either cut them up or take a bite of them to get the heat I want. Lucky Chen actually chops up their chilis so that some of the seeds & the oils actually marinate in the food. You get a nice heat in general but pair a bite with one of the chopped pieces of chili and now that's the heat for me!The free item we got with our order tonight were 4 free egg rolls... Um not great and probably why I guess they're free, right?! Hahaha If these are the same egg rolls they have on their menu (paid) then these aren't worth it. Bland and GREASY! Every time I picked one up to take a bite I had to wipe my fingers because of all the grease that came off of it...Still a fan of Lucky Chen though... But tonight has put me kind of on the fence from my previous 5 star review. The "Honeymoon" is over with the 3rd party ordering on Yelp. It's quite convenient, but it's not going to save them every time... right?Eat it... Love it?... Yelp it!!!

I am very confused...did I eat food from the same place as you 4 & 5 star people? Do they make the food less appetizing if it is to go??We ordered several items to go using Yelp...my husband noticed that you get a free item for spending up to a certain amount...I was a little leery of this because if your food is of good quality, why would you give it away? We ordered 1 rice dish, 1 chow mein, 2,vegie dishes and two chicken dishes (General Chicken and Sesame Chicken). The two chicken dishes were very oily, over cooked and tasted the same...I could not tell which was Sesame and the General. It had the texture of beef jerkey too. Of all the dishes we had, the fried rice was the only thing I would consider "okay"...the rest was just "meh". I would think that Chinese people would be offended by this being called "Chinese" food.Still looking for decent Chinese food in East County. Any suggestions, Yelpers??

Still my favorite east county go-to for Chinese cuisine. The Wor Won Ton soup was delicious with a reasonable amount and variety of ingredients including sliced pork, chicken, beef, and shrimp. The service is good as always. I do have one wish for this restaurant, however....please start to carry low sodium soy sauce!

We stopped in at Lucky Chen today to have lunch. I was pretty excited about trying this place based on some of the reviews here.I have to say, I don't understand the 4 and 5 star reviews. I found this place to be very mediocre...nothing special at all.The lady working there was not friendly and the man who took our order barely spoke English so got it wrong. We asked if their fried wontons on the appetizer menu were filled or just the fried skins. We didn't want the plain skins and told him that. He said they were filled so we ordered some. But, instead of getting wontons, he brought out the cream cheese/crab puffs. Not what we wanted so we sent them back. Apparently they don't make the filled wontons for appetizers, only for soup.I don't know why he just didn't tell us that instead of telling us they did. I don't think the lady liked the fact that we didn't want them because she was very annoyed and unfriendly after that.I ordered the Lemon Chicken with Chow Mein ($6.75) on the lunch and my husband ordered Kung Pao Beef with fried rice($7.75). They were both served with a small bowl of Hot & Sour Soup and a small bowl of salad with some crispy noodles and a creamy, mayonaisse based salad dressing. The little salad was the best part of the meal. The Hot & Sour soup was bad...not our favorite anyway but this was one of the worse one's we've tried. My chicken, while a generouse portion, was soggy with almost no lemon flavor...very bland. The Chow Mein, a small portion, was just not good at all. It had a lot of bean sprouts, shredded carrots and chunks of soggy cabbage, very few noodles and some bluish looking little strips of pork. But, I like veggies so that wasn't the problem....it just had a terrible flavor. I think the meat was spoiled. My husband's beef was so tough and stringy he could hardly eat it....kind of like jerky. He also said it had no flavor or spice, which is what Kung Pao is all about. The rice was OK. We barely ate 1/2 of our meals. Very disappointing. We're going to stick with South North Dragon....terrible location but the food is so much better. They also have online ordering for home delivery if anyone's interested. Their food always comes quickly and piping hot.

This is my regular "local" spot for authentic Chinese cuisine. Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, Wor Won Ton soup, Pot Stickers, Honey Walnut Prawns, Kung Pao Prawns, and either Pork or House Fried Rice compile the list of which I will choose from routinely. All of the above have been extremely good to excellent on a consistent basis.Tonight in addition to the Pot Stickers, I decided to venture out to other menu selections, including the BBQ Pork, the Bok Choy Beef, and the Spicy Salt and Pepper Prawns. As always, the Pot Stickers were some of the best. Crispy but not burnt on the bottom, soft on the other sides and full of flavor inside. The Bok Choy Beef was delicious. Full of natural flavors. My only wish on this would be a little more beef in the ratio. Otherwise very good. The BBQ pork was delicious as well. Moist, and full of flavor. I could have used slightly less sauce and will request this next time. And the Salt and Pepper Prawns, excellent. My favorite will remain the Honey Walnut Prawns, but when looking to skip the mayo based sauce for the day, this will be an option for a back up (next to Kung Pao Prawns).Another aspect worth mentioning is family who owns the establishment. They are always very kind and make you feel at home, even more so if you establish yourself as a regular.Highly recommend this establishment for an authentic Chinese meal in the east Contra Costa County area.

Delicious is how I describe the food at LUCKY CHEN. If you love pot stickers then this is the place to satisfy your tummy and taste buds. Their pot stickers are enormous, juicy and delish. I also enjoy their BBQ porks ribs. These are full on ribs not those tiny, bony riblets you get elsewhere. Meaty, tender and again, delish.I also love that they deliver with a nominal $2.00 charge. It would cost me more in gas to drive there to pick up my order. Lunch specials give you a very healthy portion of freshly cooked food. Lots of veggies and they use white meat in their chicken dishes. I abhor places that use nasty dark meat chicken in their entrees. The staff is kind and smiley.Give this Antioch business a try. I think you will be happy and make LUCKY CHEN your #1 Chinese food spot.If you order through EAT24 you get some freebies based on the dollar amount of your order. What's not to love about FREE?
